Kobita Sarkar is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with more than 30 years of experience supporting young people and adults experiencing mental health challenges in both hospital and community settings.
Kobita takes a holistic approach to mental health care, recognising that emotional wellbeing is influenced by a range of social and environmental factors. She works collaboratively with clients to understand how family dynamics, relationships, social connections, educational settings, and workplace environments may be affecting their mental health and overall quality of life.
She supports clients experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, life transitions, grief, loss, and trauma. Kobita also has extensive experience working with individuals facing challenges such as carer burnout, relationship difficulties, family violence, and addiction, which can contribute to or intensify mental health difficulties.
While she does not provide Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or ADHD assessments, Kobita has significant experience working with neurodivergent individuals. She adopts a strengths-based, person-centred approach, meeting clients where they are and helping them navigate day-to-day challenges in ways that are meaningful and practical.
She uses a mix of cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy, narrative therapy and solution focused therapy to support her clients depending on their needs. She is also training in EMDR and is implementing this approach gradually with clients who may benefit from it.
Kobita believes that trust, safety, and mutual respect form the foundation of effective therapy. Within a supportive therapeutic relationship, she works alongside clients to explore the factors that have led them to seek support, develop greater self-understanding, and build practical skills for change.
Her goal is to help clients foster self-compassion, strengthen their relationships with others, and develop a greater sense of confidence, resilience, and control in their live.
